The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) of Thailand has launched public consultations regarding the updated Frequency Management Master Plan for 2026–2028. This plan outlines spectrum allocations for ultra-wideband communications, satellite services, maritime tracking, and future-ready 6G testing bands.
Aligning Thailand with ITU Milestones
The draft master plan is designed to coordinate Thailand's domestic spectrum management with resolutions from the World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-23 and upcoming WRC-27). Crucially, the NBTC is evaluating the reallocation of several key bands—including sections of the 3.5 GHz and 6 GHz spectrums—to optimize fixed and mobile wireless data transmission speeds nationwide.
Spectrum Allocation Focus Areas:
- Mid-Band Reallocations: Standardizing the 3.5 GHz band for commercial 5G expansion to increase data capacity in rural areas.
- 6 GHz Evaluation: Determining final allowed power limits for indoor Wi-Fi 6E/7 operations without interfering with fixed microwave stations.
- Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN): Drafting guidelines for licensing low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite communications within civil frequency bands.
HertzWeg Insight:
"The Frequency Management Master Plan is the roadmap for all future RF certification requirements in Thailand. Importers and hardware developers must stay ahead of these mid-band and 6 GHz updates to adjust their product roadmaps and avoid technical non-compliance flags during NBTC evaluations."
